The Objectives of IISIS

  1. To identify information requirements for interorganizational management of hazardous materials at the community level
  2. To design a layered knowledge base, using the identified information requirements, for an interactive, intelligent, spatial information system (IISIS) that will provide decision support to managers engaged in hazardous materials planning and response operations
  3. To develop a prototype of a hazardous materials component for an IISIS designed to increase efficiency in hazardous materials management in interdependent environments
  4. To evaluate the prototype IISIS components in a developing process of hazardous materials management, consistent with existing federal and state standards
  5. To integrate incoming data from the field status board with stored knowledge in the computer, using logical inference capabilities, to produce likely consequences for action in hazardous materials planning and response
  6. To design an organizational learning system that will support the technical information through the on-going tasks of updating information, facilitating training, monitoring, and evaluating performance in emergency planning and response operations, and increasing efficiency in hazardous materials management.
